PRP Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP comes from your own blood.  PRP is made by obtaining a sample of your own blood, then spinning it in a high speed centrifuge to separate the blood components.  The different components of the blood separate out in a test tube – the red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma.  The platelets are then selected along with a small volume of plasma, they undergo an activation process, and are then injected into your body.

HOW does PRP work & what is is used for in Aesthetics?

The growth factors in the plasma stimulates stem cells leading to acceleration in soft tissue healing and regeneration.
Platelets release autologous fundamental  growth factors which stimulate collagen and matrix production, and angiogenesis.

PRP is used to improve skin texture and tone, especially SUN DAMAGED and aged skin. PRP can also aid with the treatment of hair loss.

How is PRP Administered?

Once produced, PRP is drawn up into a syringe and then injected or we can use Microneedling dependant on what we are treated we will advise you during the consultation what we believe will give you the best result.  A course is usually 3 treatments 4 weeks apart then 6 monthly reviews and even yearly treatments depending on you and your results.

FAQs

Like all medical procedures, there are risks associated. The most common risks are bruising at the injection sites and swelling. Because your own plasma is used, the procedure in general has a lower side effect profile than dermal fillers.

When eyes are treated, the area is quite swollen for a couple of days, so downtime is required.

Bruising may last about 1 week.

The PRP treatment is not suitable if you have been diagnosed with thrombocytopenia (low blood platelet count), chronic liver disease, cancer or if you are on blood thinners. Those who smoke a lot and use a lot of alcohol are not ideal candidates for PRP treatment (due to poorer platelet function and blood circulation).

Anti-inflammatory drugs block platelet activity. Such treatment should be discontinued at least 3-4 days prior to PRP therapy and may be continued after one week.

  • It’s not unusual to experience some mild side effects

  • Swelling is common for the first 48 hours after PRP.

  • Tenderness and bruising may appear at the injection or cannula entry sites.

  • If you do experience bruising, minimise excessive exercise in the first couple of days following treatment.

  • If you feel unwell or are concerned about any aspect of your treatment, please contact the clinic.

PRP for SKIN REJUVENATION

PRP therapy is the ultimate bio regeneration treatment. This treatment uses your own platelets to stimulate new cell growth, increase collagen, combat the effects of ageing, sun damage and improve skin texture and complexion.

PRP FOR HAIR LOSS

When it comes to hair loss, the theory is that platelets, injected deep into the scalp to reach the bottom of the hair follicle, may stimulate a specialised population of cells named dermal papilla cells, which play a critical role in hair growth.

The process of obtaining PRP involves drawing blood from your arm, then spinning the tubes in a centrifuge (a machine that spins at high speeds to help separate blood components). After centrifuging, the plasma rises to the top, and the lower part of the plasma is the PRP. Sometimes, a second spin is performed to increase the platelet concentration of the plasma.  Your own plasma is injected into your scalp with very small needles and does not take long.
